Liminals
2012–present
Liminals began while I was living in Kyoto. After my morning zazen meditation at Daitoku-ji, I often walked through the bamboo forest behind my home.
I became absorbed by subtle shifts of light and colour—by how little was needed for the familiar landscape to become something else.
Rather than describing the forest, I began reducing it toward perception itself.
Liminals does not attempt to reproduce reality or create an illusion of it. It hovers at the threshold where representation dissolves and only an experience of the image remains.
